K9 - Free Internet Filter (great for parents)

Published by Mr. E. at 4:19 pm under Free Stuff

Are you an Internet parent? Do you struggle with how to keep your kids from running into less-than-uplifting material? Struggle no more. K9 (from Blue Coat) filters the bad stuff out. Plain and simple. And even better - it really works. And best of all, it’s free for personal use.

I had doubts about this program. I figured it’d be simple to cripple, especially for today’s Internet-savvy kids. Well, it’s not. And it’s nearly impossible to uninstall if you don’t have your original password and email address. So, if you plan on installing this, do not, I repeat, do not forget your password and email address you use to sign up! If you do, you’ll be in for some serious trouble when you try to uninstall.

If you want to know how it all works and why it’s free, well, visit the Blue Coat website!

Download K9 here.

Stumble it!

Filtering is a great tool, but it’s not the only kind of software out there. Have you ever heard of accountability software? Accountability software is specifically for adults who want to guard where they go online without any blocking or filtering. Combined with filtering, it’s a great Internet safety solution for the whole family. If you want more info about it check out my post “Is Filtering All There Is?” - http://www.covenanteyes.com/blog/2008/06/12/is-filtering-all-there-is-introducing-accountability-software/

This sounds like a great idea - holding others accountable and teaching children about the dangers or pornography makes a lot of sense. It sounds like a very powerful solution.

Keep in mind, however, that K9 is free, and the software I promote in this blog will always be that - totally free.

The afore-mentioned accountability software is not free, but again, could be an excellent alternative for those looking for a “pay-for” option.
