I did not grow up in a Christian home. My parents were intelligent, creative agnostics. I believe they looked for God on and off and never found him. I went to Sunday school with friends, to many different denominations.
For a period of time I thought I was Jewish and went to temple – this was as an adult. About ten years later I had a wonderful, kind therapist who helped me get over my bitterness toward men. I had been abused as a young child and it took a lot of therapy to get me to the point of forgiveness.
A few months after my meeting Dr. E., I began to read the Bible and learn about it. I have 3 children and my middle daughter is a very happy Christian. She gave me books that helped also.
I joined a church and felt a great sense of belonging. A few months after that, I gave up alcohol and started outpatient treatment. God has brought many gifts into my life. Since accepting Christ I feel a sense of peace and love unlike anything else. I go to AA and read spiritual books and talk about my “rebirth.” I am going to be baptized soon.
I used to laugh at people who said they had been “saved,” but now I see it differently. I definitely feel that Christ rescued me from a purposeless life. I look forward to growing in my church and understanding The Bible more and more.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story.
