In the Old Testament era, according to the classic called ‘Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah’ by the Jewish theologian, converted to Christianity theologian, he writes about the wine at the Last Supper and how wine was primarily used as a drink that was more like our grape juice today. It was wine that was diluted due to the lack of drinking water in that area. When it was used it was not used like we use it today….like going down to the local pub for a few drinks with the boys.
I will answer this as simply as I can.
Drinking is not a sin. You can drink and be merry and in control
Getting drunk is a sin. As soon as drinking becomes something you rely on or an escape its a problem.
Do not be drunk but be filled with the Holy Spirit.
In my experience alcohol brought bondage.
Ask yourself if you want a drink… Why do I want a drink? your answer will tell you if its for the right or wrong reasons.
In moderation and good reason its fine!
I believe that drinking alcohol is sin because of Proverbs 20:1-3. Wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging.
